It was near a small town where two small boys were fishing in the river. Accidentally, they both fell into the water. A young man who was fishing nearby plunged in after them. He was not a very good swimmer, but he managed to bring both of the young boys to the riverbank safely. He then found himself in trouble. Weighted down with water-soaked clothing and weakened by his efforts to save the two boys, the steep, slippery bank of the river was too much for him. The more he struggled, the worse it was, and finally he went down under the water and drowned.
The tragic news soon reached his father and mother, who, of course, were grief stricken. His young brother too was terribly sad. When he heard that the boys, his playmates, had been saved, he was glad for that, but that did not take away the loss of his brother.
A few days later, the two young boys followed close behind the casket as it was carried to the cemetery plot. After the funeral, the father of the brave young man who had just been buried came up to the two sad little boys. Bending down, he gave each one a kiss and prayed God’s blessing upon them.
Also attending the funeral was a Christian man who was to preach the gospel that evening not far away. Standing before the audience, he said, “Today I saw something I have never seen before. A father kissed two boys who had caused the death of his son.”
Then he told them about the funeral. “And,” he said, “this is what God in His great love is doing now— kissing anyone who comes to Him believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, even though they were the cause of the death of His Son.”
It made a strong impression on many. One man in the audience, who was known to be a lawbreaker, came up to the preacher after the meeting and asked, “Does God treat all repentant people like that?”
“Yes,” the preacher answered. “If they come to Him in faith, believing on His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, they will receive forgiveness, peace and blessing.”
The man replied, “Then I will come to Him right now!”
May God allow that your decision may be the same. As a result, you will have the forgiveness of your sins, peace of soul and the blessing of the Father’s kiss.
