New Year's Wishes by F R Havergal

Full text of poem card:

What shall I wish you?
Treasures of earth?
Songs in the springtime,
Pleasure and mirth?
Flowers on your pathway,
Skies ever clear?
Would this assure you
A HAPPY NEW YEAR?
What shall I wish you?
What can be found
Bringing you sunshine
All the year 'round?
Where is the treasure,
Lasting and dear,
That shall assure you
A HAPPY NEW YEAR?
Faith that increaseth,
Walking in light;
Hope that aboundeth,
Happy and bright;
Love that is perfect,
Casting out fear;
These shall assure you
A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Peace in the Saviour,
Rest at His feet,
Smile of His countenance
Radiant and sweet,
Joy in His presence!
Christ ever near!
This will assure you
A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Another Year by F R Havergal

Full text of poem card:

Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
In working or in waiting,
Another year with Thee.
Another year of leaning;
Upon Thy loving breast,
Of ever-deepening trustfulness—
Of quiet, happy rest.
Another year of mercies,
Of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness
In the shining of Thy face.
Another year of progress;
Another year of praise;
Another year of proving
Thy presence "all the days."
Another year of service,
Of witness for Thy love;
Another year of training
For holier work above.
Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
On earth, or else in heaven,
Another year for Thee!

Jesus Cares

Full text of poem card:

There is never a day so dreary
But God can make it bright,
And unto the soul that trusts Him,
He giveth songs in the night.
There is never a path so hidden,
But God can lead the way,
If we seek for the Spirit’s guidance
And patiently wait and pray.
There is never a cross so heavy
But the nail-scarred hands are there
Outstretched in tender compassion
The burden to help us bear.
There is never a heart so broken,
But the loving Lord can heal,
The heart that was pierced on Calvary
Doth still for His loved ones feel.
There is never a life so darkened,
So hopeless and unblessed,
But may be filled with the light of God
And enter His promised rest.
There is never a sin or sorrow,
There is never a care or loss,
But that we may bring to Jesus
And leave at the foot of the cross.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:6,7)
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 15:13)
“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28,29)
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
“God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ” (2 Corinthians 4:6)

Happy Holiday

Full text of gospel tract:

We hear it so often around this time of year: "Happy Holiday!" "Season's Greetings!" Everyone seems to be in the mood for some kind of festive celebration. Exactly what is the holiday that we are celebrating? Are we allowed to say it? Is it a forbidden word? Are we afraid to say it? Will people be offended if we actually tell them what the holiday is?
What ever happened to Christmas? What ever happened to the Christ of Christmas? Long ago there was no room in the inn. Is there any room for Him in today's celebration? What ever happened to the birth of the Saviour? Has it been a giant mistake that all of our calendars mark His birth as the starting point, and that His birth divides all of this world's history into B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (anno Domini, in the year of the Lord)?
Should we give up Christmas and abandon it as a holy day? After all, no one wants to mention it anymore, and it seems to have evolved into a meaningless, festive, gift-giving occasion apart from any spiritual significance. If the God of the entire universe, the Maker of heaven and earth, decided to pay a visit to this earth, that is highly significant and worthy of at least a yearly remembrance and thankful celebration! "And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world" (1 John 4:14).
Here is the Christmas story according to John, a man who knew Jesus Christ very well: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made…. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:1-3,14).
John also makes very clear the reason God came to earth as Man. He came on a saving mission: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:16,17).
Why did God have to become a man? In order to save sinful men, someone holy would have to die for them. But there is no one holy except God, and God cannot die. Therefore God would have to become a man in order to be able to save mankind. This was made possible through the miracle of the virgin birth. Although God could not die, the God-man (the Lord Jesus Christ) could die and did die for our sins: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him [the Messiah] the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
On that first Christmas night, the angel announced the good news which summarizes the true meaning of Christmas: "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:10,11).
The Saviour has been born! Do you know Him as your personal Saviour? He died as the sinner's Substitute and He rose again to provide eternal life for all who trust in Him. "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12). Have you realized your condition as a needy sinner and come to Him, the only Saviour? Jesus said, "Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37).

Have A Good Day!

Full text of gospel tract:

Ever have someone wish you a good day? Your next door neighbor, the cashier in the grocery store, your friend at school, or even a total stranger may say to you, “Have a good day.” But does this wish cause us to have a good day? How can we really have a good day—not only today, but every day?

A Good Day and A Good Forever

It is our wish for everyone not only to have a good day but to have a good forever. And how can you have a good day if you are not assured of a good forever? You may try to ignore the future by concentrating on the pleasures of this life. You may be partly successful with this and even say to yourself, “Take your ease, eat, drink and be merry” (Luke 12:19). But if you do not know where you will be when your life is over, thoughts of the future will inevitably return to spoil your present joys.

One Thing Can Ruin Both

God has provided a way for everyone to have a good forever. But, if you do not avail yourself of that way, then your future is foretold in Hebrews 9:27: “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Death and judgment are the results of sin. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin will keep you from having a good forever, and it will keep you from having a good day. If you die in your sins, it will be too late to change your forever (Revelation 20:15).

Today Can Make the Difference

But you can change that future now. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). God, who is holy and must punish sin, is also a God of love. He has provided a way for sinners to be saved from the consequences of their sin. God is longsuffering toward us, and is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (see 2 Peter 3:9). In fact, God never prepared hell for man but for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41).

The Price Has Already Been Paid

The salvation that God provided does not set aside His holiness and righteousness. It is summed up for us in Romans 5:8: “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Christ, the sinless Son of God, satisfied all of God’s holy and righteous requirements by dying for our sins. God’s wrath and judgment against sin were met by Christ when He suffered the awful agonies of the cross (Matthew 27:46; 1 Peter 3:18).

What Is The Way?

Yes, God has provided a way for you and me to have a good forever. This way of salvation is open to all who will confess their sins to God in true repentance, believe that Jesus died for them, and receive Him as their Lord and Saviour. If you sincerely take these steps, the power of death will be broken and there will be no judgment ahead for you because Jesus Christ has said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24). Your sins will all be forgiven and your future will be bright and clear with a certainty of being with Christ in heaven.

The Source Of Good Days

As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ you will not only be sure of a good forever, you will also be able to have a good day every day. Jesus will never leave you, and the more you fellowship with Him through prayer and reading the Bible daily, the more you will experience His presence in your life. Even when everything around you seems dark and discouraging, God’s presence in your life brings “fulness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). —John D. McNeil

A Message of Sympathy and Comfort

Full text of gospel tract:

Our hearts reach out to you with sympathy for your recent loss. We know how difficult this time can be, and want to assure you that you are not alone. God has allowed a loved one to be taken from you, but God has not left you. The Bible reminds us that God is the “God of all comfort” who sustains us through these difficult times so we can bring His comfort to others who are hurting (2 Corinthians 1:2-4).

God Knows Your Pain

Because God created us, He knows intimately the depth of sorrow which the human heart can feel. Jesus, the Son of God, experienced this sorrow for Himself when His dear friend Lazarus died. The Bible records His heart-felt reaction in the Bible’s shortest verse: “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). God knows your pain.
Now try to picture Jesus, a perfectly innocent young Man, suffering and dying on the shameful cross. Because of that dreadful day, we can be assured that God knows—really knows—the sorrow of seeing a loved one suffer, the tragedy of an “untimely” passing, and the painful separation brought about by death.

God Loves You

During a time of loss, some people begin to wonder if God really cares. Oh, dear reader, let us assure you that God not only cares about you; He loves you tremendously! Consider the reason why God allowed His precious Son to go to Calvary’s cross: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
The Bible teaches that sin is the underlying cause of death. Beginning with Adam, the very first man, we have all sinned; we have all gone against God’s holy standard and fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23; 5:12). The result of sin is death (Romans 6:23). This is where God stepped in and demonstrated His boundless love by sending Jesus Christ, who willingly laid down His life to gain the ultimate victory over sin and death (Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:57).

God Wants You to Turn to Him

It is our prayer that God will use this time to draw you closer to Him. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, we encourage you to look to Him for strength and comfort. Seek out fellowship with other believers who can show you God’s love.
If you have not trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, we plead with you today to look in faith to the One who died for you and rose again. Turn to Him, repent of your sins, and place your faith in Jesus Christ. Then, when your time comes to leave this world, you will go to be with God forever in Heaven where sickness, sorrow, and death shall never enter.
We send you these words in love, hoping they will bring comfort to your soul as you come to the full assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Take Him as your Saviour today.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).

God Answers Your Questions

Full text of gospel tract:

Q. I am young yet, and likely to live for a long time. Why should I think of eternal things now?
God says: "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth" and "What is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away" (Proverbs 27:1; James 4:14).
Q. When I do die, won't that be the end of me?
"The rich man died, and was buried; and in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments" (Luke 16:22,23).
Q. Must we not wait until the judgment day to see who goes to hell?
"He that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God" (John 3:18).
Q. I have lived a fairly good life; am I condemned?
God says: "There is none righteous, no not one … There is none that doeth good, no not one … all the world [is] guilty before God" (Romans 3:10,12,19).
Q. God is a loving, merciful God. Won't He pass over my sins?
"The Lord God … will by no means clear the guilty" (Exodus 34:6,7). "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).
Q. But I say my prayers, and have given money to the church. Won't that count in my favor?
"Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord … in Thy name [we have] done many wonderful works. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me" (Matthew 7:22,23).
Q. Why would God judge me the same as somebody who is grossly immoral, or a murderer?
"All have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). "All we like sheep have gone astray" (Isaiah 53:6). "Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10).
Q. If that be the case, I must plead guilty. I have sinned. What must I do to be saved?
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (Acts 16:31).
Q. Tell me exactly what I need to believe.
"The Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). "The Son of God … loved me, and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). "Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18).
Q. But must I do nothing to gain salvation?
"A man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ" (Galatians 2:16). "For by grace are ye saved … not of works" (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Q. To be saved just by believing seems too simple.
"If the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?" (2 Kings 5:13). Jesus says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life" (John 6:47).
Q. Did God really love me before I was saved?
"God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
Q. I often think I am too great a sinner to be saved.
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18). "Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
Q. Won't my life change if I become a Christian?
"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him" (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Are You a Good Person?

Full text of gospel tract:

STEP 1: Read these stories and decide what you would do

You’re walking down the hall when a $20 bill falls to the floor at your feet. Looking up, you realize that “Mr. Money Bags” is in front of you digging through his pockets. He already has everything: will he ever miss twenty dollars?

What would you do?

Take the money and run: 0 points
Donate it to a charity: 2 points
Give the money back: 4 points
Uh-oh. You forgot about today’s math test and did not study. Luckily, you sit beside “Miss Know-It-All” and her answers are just begging to be looked at. Your teacher walks out of the room. Here’s your chance to “borrow” some answers.

What would you do?

Copy the whole test: 0 points
Use a few answers: 2 points
Do your own work: 4 points
The school bully is walking through the cafeteria with a tray full of chili and pudding. He is about to walk past you when you notice the backpack in his path. If he trips over it, things will get very messy. You have to act fast.

What would you do?

Grab your camera: 0 points
Yell “Look out!”: 2 points
Move the backpack: 4 points

STEP 2: Add up your points

If your total score is …

4 points or less:
You should really try harder.
6 or 8 points:
A good score, but it could be better.
10 points or more:
Way to go! You are a very good person.

STEP 3: Good enough?

Are you a good person? Based on your score, you might feel pretty good about yourself. But what does God think? After all, God is the one who decides what is right and what is wrong. What does God say?
“There is none righteous, no, not one.” “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:10,23).
God, who sees everything we do and knows everything we think, has plainly said that none of us are good enough to enter Heaven and live with Him forever. No matter how many good things we do, our sin (the bad things we do) keeps us away from God, and will keep us out of Heaven.
But God has a way for us to be made perfect in His sight! When God’s Son, Jesus, suffered and died on Calvary’s cross, He paid the price that our sins deserve. God was so happy with that perfect and complete payment that He raised Jesus from the dead.
What do you have to do to go to Heaven? First, you have to realize that your sin separates you from God. Then you must accept God’s way of salvation, trusting Jesus Christ as your Savior. He will wash your sins away, make you perfect in His sight, and promise you an eternal home in Heaven.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

"I've Got My Own Religion"

Full text of gospel tract:

"Whatever you believe is alright."
"Everybody has their own beliefs."
"Just so you believe something."
These are sayings which you will hear from many people today. They sound nice, and help to make people feel good, since their own beliefs are said to be as valid as those of anyone else. "After all," some say, "can you really know anything for sure?" People who claim to have "the truth" are looked down upon as being arrogant and intolerant. For some reason, people can accept the idea that any religion is valid as long as it doesn't claim to be the only true religion! Do you know why that is? It's Satan's way of getting people to believe anything but the one thing that will remove his grip on their souls.
It is not true that all religious beliefs are of equal value. It is not true that "Whatever you believe is alright." The very fact that "Everybody has their own beliefs" is what God says is man's biggest problem—we have exchanged His truth for our beliefs. "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way" (Isaiah 53:6). Man's confused religions stand in opposition to God's simple way to life. Man's ways are the wide, tolerant, sin-ignoring way that ends in destruction. "Broad is the way that leadeth to destruction … narrow is the way that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" (Matthew 7:13,14).
There is one sense in which it is true that what you believe doesn't matter. What you believe, or what religious men have taught, does not change the truth of God's Word! Just believing something doesn't make it so. Jumping off the top of a skyscraper onto the street below will kill you, no matter how strongly you believe otherwise. Entering into eternity with the firm belief that there is no God, or that your beliefs or your works are good enough to merit His approval will not change the outcome: "Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:15).
Truth is not a matter of opinion. Either something is true or it is false. Jesus Christ claims to be the truth. He did not say "I am a way," but rather, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me" (John 14:6). When it comes to faith, it is not, "Just so you believe something," but "Just so you believe Christ." Faith in Jesus Christ, who laid down His life on the cross of Calvary and rose victoriously from the dead, is the only way to everlasting life and forgiveness of sins.
Just as everyone has turned to his own way, each of us must individually turn from our rebellion. No one can save himself, since salvation is "not of works" (Ephesians 2:8,9). Because God is the One who saves, salvation is as certain as His promise: "He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24).
Jesus Christ is the only way. Won't you stop rejecting Him, and by faith receive Him as your Saviour today? "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

Son of Hope: the Testimony of David Berkowitz

Full text of gospel tract:

May God bless everyone who is reading this message. My name is David Berkowitz and I am a prison inmate who has been incarcerated since 1977. I have been sentenced to prison for the rest of my life. I was the notorious murderer known as "Son of Sam."
It was in 1987, when I was living in a cold and lonely prison cell, that God got hold of my life. Here is my story of hope.

Childhood

Ever since I was a small child, my life seemed to be out of control. I was like a wild and destructive animal. My mother had no control over me. My father had to pin me to the floor until I calmed down. When I was in public school, I was so violent and disruptive that a teacher had to grab me in a headlock and throw me out of his classroom. I got into a lot of fights. Sometimes I started screaming for no reason. I was plagued with bouts of severe depression. Eventually my parents were ordered by the school officials to take me to a child psychologist or else I would be expelled. I had to go to the psychologist once a week for two years, yet the therapy sessions had no effect on my behavior.

Thoughts of Suicide

Thoughts of suicide often came into my mind. Sometimes I spent time sitting on a window ledge with my legs dangling over the side. We lived on the 6th floor of an old apartment building. When my dad saw me doing this he would yell at me to get back inside. I had no idea what to do and neither did my parents. They had me talk to a Rabbi, teachers, and school counselors, but nothing worked.

The Death of My Mother

When I was 14, my mother was stricken with cancer. Within several months she was dead. I had no brothers or sisters, so it was just my dad and me. He had to work 10 hours a day, six days a week. We spent very little time together.
For the most part, my mother had been my source of stability. With her now gone, however, my life quickly went downhill. I was filled with anger at the loss of my mom. I felt hopeless, and my periods of depression were more intense than ever. I also became even more rebellious and began to cut out of school.
My dad tried to help as best he could. He managed to push me through high school. The day after I graduated, I went into the Army. Even in the service I had trouble coping, though I did manage to finish my three-year enlistment.

Involvement in the Occult

I got out of the service in 1974 to start life again as a "civilian." All my friends that I knew before had either married or moved away. So I found myself living alone in New York City.
In 1975 I met some guys at a party who, I later found out, were heavily involved in the occult. I had always been fascinated with witchcraft, Satanism, and occult things since I was a child. When I was growing up, I watched countless horror and Satan-type movies, some of which totally captivated my mind.
Now I was 22 and the forces of Satan were becoming more and more evident in my life. I felt as if something was trying to take control of my life. I began to read the Satanic Bible by the late Anton LaVey who founded the Church of Satan in San Francisco in 1966. I began, innocently, to practice various occult rituals and incantations.
I am utterly convinced that something satanic had entered into my mind and, looking back at all that happened, I realize that I had been slowly deceived. I did not know that bad things were going to result from all this, yet over the months the things that were wicked no longer seemed to be such. I was headed down the road to destruction and I did not know it. Maybe I was at a point where I just didn't care.

The Horror Begins

Eventually, I crossed that invisible line of no return. After years of mental torment, behavioral problems, deep inner struggles, and my own rebellious ways, I began committing horrible crimes. Looking back, it was all an awful nightmare and I would do anything if I could undo everything that happened. Six people lost their lives. Many others suffered at my hand and will continue to suffer for a lifetime. I am sorry for this.
In 1978 I was sentenced to about 365 consecutive years, virtually burying me alive behind prison walls. When I first entered the prison system I was placed in isolation. I was then sent to a psychiatric hospital because I was declared temporarily insane. Eventually I was sent to other prisons including the infamous "Attica."

Hope Appears

Ten years into my prison sentence, when I was feeling despondent and without hope, another inmate came up to me as I was walking the prison yard one cold winter evening. He introduced himself and began to tell me that Jesus Christ loved me and wanted to forgive me. Although I knew he meant well I mocked him because I did not think that God would ever forgive me or that He would want anything to do with me. Still this man persisted, and we became friends. His name was Rick, and we would walk the yard together. Little by little he would share with me about his life and what he believed Jesus had done for him. He kept reminding me that no matter what a person did, Christ stood ready to forgive if that individual would be willing to turn from the bad things he was doing and would put his full faith and trust in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross—dying for our sins.
He gave me a Gideon Pocket Testament and asked me to read the Psalms. I did. Every night I would read from them. It was at this time the Lord was quietly melting my stone-cold heart.

A New Life Begins

One night I was reading Psalm 34. I came upon the 6th verse which says, "This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles." It was at this moment, in 1987, that I began to pour out my heart to God. Everything seemed to hit me at once—the guilt of what I had done and the disgust at what I had become. Late that night in my cold cell I got down on my knees and began to cry to Jesus Christ.
I told Him that I was sick and tired of doing evil. I asked Jesus to forgive me for all my sins. I spent a good while on my knees praying to Him. When I got up it felt as if a heavy but invisible chain that had been around me for so many years was broken. A peace flooded over me. I did not understand what was happening. In my heart I just knew that somehow my life was going to be different.

A Decade of Freedom

More than 11 years have gone by since I had that first talk with the Lord. So many good things have happened in my life since. Jesus Christ has allowed me to start an outreach ministry right here in the prison where I have been given permission by prison officials to work in the "Special Needs Unit." This is where men who have various emotional and coping problems are housed. I can pray with them as we read our Bibles together. I get the chance to show them a lot of brotherly love and compassion. I have worked as the Chaplain's clerk and also have a letter writing ministry. In addition, the Lord has made ways for me to share with millions via TV programs such as Inside Edition. I have been able to share what He has done in my life, as well as warn others about the dangers of involvement in the occult.

There Is Hope for You Too

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Romans 10:13. It says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Here it is clear that God has no favorites. He rejects no one, but welcomes all who call upon Him.
I know that God is a God of mercy who is willing to forgive. He is perfectly able to restore and heal our hurting and broken lives. I have discovered from the Bible that Jesus Christ died for our sins. He took our place on the cross. He shed His blood as the complete payment God required for our sins.
The Bible says, "All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Furthermore, it says, "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). These passages make it clear that everyone has sinned. Some like myself, are worse sinners than others, but all have sinned. Therefore, we must all acknowledge our sins before God, own that we deserve God's judgment for eternity, and realize that we are LOST!
When we reach the point of realizing that we are lost, guilty, ruined sinners, then we will be ready to accept the Saviour whom God has provided for us. Who is this Saviour? He is the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Creator of the universe and the eternal Son of God who came into this world as a Man. As perfect, sinless Man, He suffered and died on the cross for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3; 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18). Then He was buried and on the third day He rose again in victory, for death could not hold Him. If you realize you are lost and need a Saviour, then place your full, undivided faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for your sins. "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes, we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5). Have you put your name in this verse? To reject the Lord Jesus Christ and His work on the cross is to reject God's perfect and only gift of salvation and eternal life.

Here Is Your Opportunity

Friend, here is your opportunity to get things right with God. The Bible says, "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9,10). So believe in your heart that these words from the Bible are true and apply to you. Please consider what I am saying. I beg you with all my heart to place your faith in Christ right now! Do not be ashamed to do this! Do not wait for a more convenient time! Tomorrow is promised to no one. Do not wait for your death bed, for you may not have one! "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).

What Difference Will It Make?

Once you place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, the Holy Spirit will start a life-long work of transformation in your life (Romans 12:1,2) so that you will begin, finally, to do works and deeds that are pleasing to God (Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 2:14). With some this work may proceed more rapidly than with others, or may be intermingled with failures and setbacks. But the more your focus is on Christ your Saviour, the more the Holy Spirit will help you to get the victory over the sin patterns in your life (Romans 6-8) and to be increasingly changed into a moral likeness to Christ (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18). Best of all, you now have the assurance of eternal life with Christ (John 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) in heaven, at which time your growth in holiness and moral likeness to Christ will be complete: "We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2).

Concluding Comments

I am not sharing this message simply to tell you an interesting story. Rather I want you to taste the goodness of God in the life of a man who was once a Satan-worshiper and a murderer, to show you that Jesus Christ can bring about forgiveness, hope, and change.
I was involved in the occult and I got burned. I became a cruel killer and threw away my life as well as destroying the lives of others. Now I have discovered that Christ is my answer and my hope. He broke the chains of sin, self-will, and depression that had me bound. He has turned me from a path leading to eternal damnation in the lake of fire to the blessed assurance of eternal life in heaven. God has miraculously transformed "Son of Sam" into "Son of Hope." He wants to perform the same kind of transformation in your heart and life today!
Thank you for reading this. May God bless you.

Peace: Is It Yours?

Full text of gospel tract:

Peace Unknown

The endless wars and conflicts and injustices we see in the world today only prove what the Bible has always declared concerning mankind: "The way of peace have they not known" (Romans 3:17). All efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace miserably fail for the simple reason that the root of the problem is not dealt with. Peace unknown on the national and international levels only proves that peace is unknown in the individual hearts of people. God alone has the solution to the problem of peace for nations, for individuals, and for you, dear reader. He has successfully dealt with the root cause of all distress—sin. He now offers sure and lasting peace for heart and conscience in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ who says, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).

Peace Made

"Having made peace through the blood of His cross" (Colossians 1:20). Man can never "make his peace with God." It cannot be bought, nor can it be worked for. Tears, prayers, and resolutions are all unavailing to make peace with Him. No human friend can make that peace. Though patriots and parents who love their nations and their children would lay down their lives for them, they cannot make peace with God for them.
What a blessed thing it is that what man could never do, God has done perfectly and eternally! What is it that has made peace? It is the work of our Lord Jesus Christ when He bore "the chastisement of our peace" (Isaiah 53:5) on the cross. There the full penalty of God's judgment against sin, and the cloud of divine wrath burst upon the spotless Substitute. Here peace was made so effectually that God raised up Christ from the dead in token of His acceptance of His perfect work.

Peace Preached

"And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh" (Ephesians 2:17). After His resurrection, our Lord Jesus appeared in the midst of His disciples and said: "Peace be unto you" (John 20:19,21), showing them the wounds in His hands and His side. This was the preaching of peace. He showed the grounds upon which He could declare peace—the witness of His finished work on the cross—and He pronounced that peace upon those who were His. This blessed work of proclaiming peace has been going on ever since. The Holy Spirit was sent down from heaven, energizing the people of God to proclaim peace to all mankind. The true way of peace is only being preached today wherever the gospel is made known.

Peace Possessed

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). It is one thing for peace to have been made by His death on the cross, and to have been proclaimed by our blessed Lord and by the Holy Ghost in the gospel of His grace, but it is another thing for this peace to be possessed. It is peace for all mankind, but not possessed by all mankind. This peace must be received, and here is where faith comes in. Faith takes God at His word, acknowledging one's lost and ruined condition because of sin in his heart and life, and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and Lord. Faith is putting one's trust in Him who died and rose again to put away the sin which has caused the war in his heart against God. All who believe on Him receive this blessed peace—it is theirs now, not merely for them, but their possession. Notice here that it is not a feeling of peace that is spoken of, but a relationship with God. Instead of being under wrath, subject to judgment, the believer is in the place of acceptance, the object of His delight, looked upon as righteous before Him. Can you, dear reader, say, "I have peace with God"?

Peace Known

"He is our Peace," (Ephesians 2:14). Peace does not come from ourselves and we are not to look within our hearts for the true measure of it. We do have the enjoyment of it there, and the more simply we believe the Word of God, the fuller such enjoyment will be, for peace is in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Possessing Him as Saviour and Lord, the believer has peace of conscience as to his sins, and peace of heart as to his circumstances. Jesus said, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace" (John 16:33). Therefore, "Acquaint NOW thyself with Him and be at PEACE: thereby good shall come unto thee" (Job 22:21).

Teddy's Button by Amy Le Feuvre

Click to look inside the book.

Click to read the full text of the book.

Setting: Nineteenth century England.

Publisher's Review:
Teddy's Button tells the story of a little boy who wants to be a soldier like his father. Teddy's most prized possession, a button from his father's uniform, and the tale that goes with it, is all he has besides his sweet mother and stern grandmother.
This is a reprint from the D.L. Moody Colportage library, and contains a classic story of courage, conflicting emotions, and personal growth. Read how Teddy gets into mischief, and what happens when he is introduced to the Captain of our souls.

Summary: Teddy is a boy with a fertile imagination and a great story teller. His favourite story is that of his father's last battle. One day as Teddy so proudly displays his button that was from his father’s uniform who died in the war, the new little girl in town shows much contempt for him and his “story.” Infuriated, Teddy feels hatred for her in his heart. Always into mischief, Nancy becomes his enemy and a few scraps occur. The pastor, a wise man of God, counsels Teddy on how to be a soldier for Christ. As God works in Teddy’s heart, those around him see Christ begin to shine through Teddy in his successes and his failures.

Message: The reality that we are either on the Lord's side or on Satan's side. We are to be soldiers for Christ and our banner is Love. The daily need to fight against the old nature but the only way we can be conquerors is through strength found through resting in Christ.

Other: Fiction. Teddy's imaginations and stories do include some about fairies/elves/goblins. In the book no adult agrees or disagrees with these stories as Teddy only tells them to his friends and classmates. No age is given for Teddy or any of the other children but it would seem that he is aged somewhere between 7 and 11. Originally published in 1890.

They have fun, squabble and get into trouble. When the family goes on holidays the children are so excited. Dad plans to make a presentation on "how to become a Christian" for church and while on holidays he asks the twins to help him to prepare it.

Some of the things the twins learn about in this book:
~ Some wrong ideas people have about becoming a Christian (eg by going to church, baptised, etc)

~ good fruit and bad friut
~ sin
~ Christ took the punishment meant for us
~ repentance
~ confession of our faith
~ counting the cost
~ assurance of salvation
