Would you believe up to 2,000 years? A bigger question is, What’s our life span? The God who made both of us and everyone else who has ever lived knows. “What is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth” (James 4:14). That’s not much time. Then what? We “die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). That’s the serious moment when a holy God who can’t tolerate even one act of disobedience (sin) must be faced. What answer to His justice can we give? Will it be “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth [me] from all sin” (1 John 1:7)? If so, we’ve already passed from spiritual death to life and don’t face judgment. If we only have the answer that we’re “better than others,” then we’ll discover too late that “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God” (Hebrews 10:31).
