The Adventures of Heart Longing: An Allegory by Julie Klassen

Excerpt: "Please let me come in!" The lines on Word's face grew firm and he slowly shook his head. "You enter the Eternal City by grace, and get that grace by believing. It is a gift from God. No one can brag that he gained entrance by the work he has done - not even a fair maid."
Heart did not understand. She was wearing her best dress and new black shoes. But as Heart looked at her clothes, she was mystified, and horrified. Where the light from Word struck her clothes, they were dirty. And when his light touched her fruit, it appeared brown and spoiled. Word slowly closed the heavy gate...

Summary: An allegory about a girl called Heart Longing and her quest to leave World City and reach Eternal City, to present fruit to the King. This book is a clever allegory which teaches many Biblical truths including the way of salvation and the fruit of the Spirit. Includes a glossary listing and explaining the people and places in the book (with Scripture references) and also includes questions on each chapter at the back of the book. These questions direct the reader to search the Scriptures and to think about the truths presented.

  1. This is an excellent book! My children enjoyed it so much, they would beg me to read more and more! It also made them think about the Fruit of the Spirit in their own lives, which is great.
