Peace With God

Full text of Peace With God:
Can we really expect to find lasting peace? About two hundred treaties have been signed in Europe in recent history and almost all have been broken. Treaties don’t guarantee peace. What about the peace in your neighborhood? Maybe you do not have any drugs or crime near you, but what about inside the homes? Divorce and child abuse seem to be problems almost everywhere. Peace? Not really.
There is really no peace in the world around us. But what about inside us? What about in our hearts? Maybe around others we manage a cheerful smile. What about when we’re alone? God says in the Bible that some cry, “Peace, peace; when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14). Are you like that? Pretending to be at peace will never satisfy our craving for real, enduring peace.
The Problem
God doesn’t want us to have to struggle, but there’s a problem. God says, “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). That “all” includes every one of us. No one has measured up to God’s standard. Without God there is no way for us to have real peace. Some people try to make their peace with God, but nothing that we can do is good enough. God says, “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). Those aren’t worth much in God’s sight.
How Do We Find Peace?
God has made a way for us to be right with Him through the Lord Jesus Christ. All God’s demands for perfect righteousness were met in the Lord Jesus. Jesus came into the world and went to the cross to die and pay the penalty for sin. He Himself couldn’t sin, but He was “made . . . sin for us” (2 Corinthians 5:21). And the result is this: He has “made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:20).
The Lord Jesus has made peace possible for anyone who will trust in Him. The Bible says that God is “of purer eyes than to behold evil” (Habakkuk 1:13) and that we have all sinned. We must have our sins washed away so that we can have the peace that Jesus has made possible for us. God says, “The blood of Jesus Christ His [God’s] Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). You need to take advantage of the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood by believing on Him. God says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). No amount of churchgoing or good deeds will ever wash away your sins. Remember, God has said that all your righteousnesses are like filthy rags to Him.
Real Peace
Only when you believe on the Lord Jesus and trust Him to wash away your sins will you be able to enjoy the peace that He has made. Then you can enjoy the Bible when it says, “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). God wants to “fill you with all joy and peace in believing” (Romans 15:13) once you have put your trust in Him. God, who raised Jesus from the dead, invites you to “acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace” (Job 22:21).
