Stepping Stones Through the Bible Day by Day

 

How to use this book:

There are two ways in which this book can be used. Perhaps you have been given the book as a present, and hope to read it for yourself, on your own. The best way to do this is to keep it in the place where you hope to read it, and then use it every day. Take up the book, turn to the reading for the day, and look up the Bible passage in your own Bible, then read that part of the Bible first. If you don’t have a Bible of your own, see if you can borrow one from a friend, a member of your family or someone who goes to your local church. Once you have read the verses for the day, think about the words that are highlighted at the top of the page in this reading book. They will give you a theme which will help you to understand what the reading is about. Read the rest of the page, and when you have finished, use the thought in the prayer bubble to help you to pray to God before you get on with the day.
This book of readings also comes with a CD-Rom which you will find tucked into a sleeve on the inside back cover. You can access all the readings from your computer if you wish to use the CD as well as the book. (Compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7).
Perhaps you have bought the book to read it with your family. We would encourage you to do this, if you are a father, mother or carer. You may find the best time to read to your family is over breakfast, though some families might find it more suitable to read it before bed-time. Whichever way is best for your family, take your responsibility seriously to teach your children the things of God. Read the Bible together and pray together. Someone has rightly said, ‘the family that prays together, stays together’. The Bible gives us good advice and a strong hope that what we teach our children now will remain with them forever. It says, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it’, Proverbs 22. 6. Show your children, by your example how important it is to read the Bible every day.

Summary:  The Bible is crammed full with wonderful stories. Some of them are famous and some are not so well-known. But Bible stories are not just to entertain us. Each one is there to teach us something important. Some tell us what God is like and some show us what we are like. Some warn us not to make the mistakes that others once made and others are there to show us when people did the right things and encourage us to do the same.
This series of Bible stories follows the time-line of the Bible. The stories are told in the order they took place, rather than in the order we find them in the Bible. In this way, we can see the sweep of history that records how God dealt with people right from the creation of the world to the early days of the church. Stepping Stones also shows us a little of what God has said will happen in the future, and tells us how He wants us to live as Christians now.
