Time Yourself (p.2-3 mazes)
1. How quickly can you solve the challenging maze shown on the right?
2. Try the one below. Warning! You’ll find it frustrating.
Guess the Object (p. 4-5 four pictures taken in a warped mirror)
See if you can figure out what each of the objects are that were placed in front of the curved mirror.

Crack the Code (p. 6-7 A visual code puzzle)
Place the first letter of each of the numbered objects in the space below it to reveal the hidden message. Example: Number 5 marks an apple, so place an A in the blank beneath the number 5 in the hidden message.
Is It Hard to See Straight Sometimes? (p. 8-9)
We had a lot of fun creating the mystery images for you on page 5. Curved mirrors warp reality and can make crooked things look straight and straight things look crooked. That’s entertaining when playing with mirrors but a lot more serious when talking about sin.
We often have a pretty warped view of how serious sin is. Sin isn’t a harmless weed but a deadly plant whose fruit we are about to harvest. God talks about people that “call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness” (Isaiah 5:20). You may meet people who will tell you it’s OK to lie once in a while. Others say as long as you do your best, then God will do the rest. After all, nobody is perfect. The truth is that God is perfect, and He has a perfect home, heaven. He, not we, decides what sin is. God is “of purer eyes than to behold evil, and [cannot] look on iniquity” (Habakkuk 1:13). There’s even more scary news about what we have planted in our lives.
Ever Been Trapped? (p. 10-11)
If you tried the first maze in this booklet, you found it was impossible to get out. That feeling of being trapped with no way out is very frustrating and even scary. Some of us even “freak out” in a situation like that. I remember fighting back panic when I was sure a huge and expensive project was about to fail. It seemed like we were suddenly ready to reap nothing but failure when we thought we had planted for success.
There’s another trap that may not be as obvious, but it is actually a lot scarier than a failed harvest. Sin, disobedience to God, has a death grip on every one of us. We can’t get out of it. Any of us who are honest have to admit that we have lied, gotten angry at our parents, disobeyed our teachers and not just once in our lives either. “All have sinned” (Romans 3:23). Lots of us think we can try harder and not sin, but God’s Word, the Bible, says, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20). It’s already too late to deserve heaven if we’ve sinned even once. So where does that leave sinners like you and me?
Is There a Way Out? (p. 12-13)
The puzzle on pages 6‑7 says JESUS SAVES, and that is certainly true. Jesus, the Son of God, would not leave us to struggle to get ourselves out of a truly impossible situation. He offers to save helpless sinners who deserve the result of their crop of sin. “When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. … God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6,8).
We don’t deserve the love shown us by Jesus when He died on the cross. He doesn’t demand that we reform, live a better life or clean up our act. That would be as impossible as trying to find our way out of a maze without an exit. Instead, we can simply receive the gift of eternal life. “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Jesus Christ, at a huge cost to Himself, has made available to you a tremendous gift — eternal life. Will you reap the benefit of His generosity?
What Will You Do? | |
What will you do with God’s offer of salvation from your sin? If you don’t see any need of turning to Jesus Christ to be saved, then you, maybe without realizing it, are calling Him a liar, because He said, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:36). Either we accept Jesus Christ the Son of God and have everlasting life now or we receive the consequences of our own sin. Either we receive the harvest of joy that Christ deserves or the eternal separation from God that grows out of our sin.
You could have refused to read this message, but you didn’t. You could refuse to accept God’s message, but you shouldn’t. The Bible tells us, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation” (Hebrews 2:3). The only way to enjoy a gift is to receive it, thank the giver and then get to know the gift better.
