Summary: Miriam is a ten year old girl living with her parents, grandmother, two older brothers and two younger sisters on a farm in Galilee.
Through her window Miriam watched the bright yellow sun begin its climb into the blue dome of sky above Galilee. The quiet sea sparkled like a thousand diamonds. Beyond rose the rolling hills, and farther, the mountains. Tiny fishing boats sliced through the sparkles toward the harbor, their night of fishing done.
Miriam could hear her brother coaxing the goats to stand still, so that he could milk them. Mother was singing softly as she set out the morning meal. And Father, Nahum, and Grandmother were discussing the day's plans.
This was Miriam's home in Galilee, and everything was just right... until later that day, when Father explained that they might have to leave their home.
Jachan, the tax collector, had unfairly raised the taxes. Father had been depending on the wheat harvest to pay them. But with little rain, there was little wheat.
"Jehovah will provide," said Father
Will He? Can we keep living in Galilee? Miriam wondered. It would take a miracle.
Miriam helps on the farm to bring in the harvest, breaks her foot slipping out of a tree, attends her first wedding, and makes friends with a rich Roman girl, daughter of a centurion. Miriam's life is full of adventure but yet there is always the worry of moving.
But then the unexpected happens. The tax collector returns some money which he had dishonestly taken after he meets the Lord Jesus.

Other: A story rich with the life and culture of Bible times. Very interesting and helpful in understanding life in Bible times. While this book is a work of fiction it is not full of fanciful characters that are supposedly in the Bible, nor does it add anything to the Scriptures. Only the tax collector meets Jesus and he only reports back what he learnt from the Lord's teachings - there are no imagined conversations with the Lord.

Message: The Lord will provide for His people, although it may not be in the way expected.
