Summary: Young Milly becomes an orphan and is sent to live with her uncle, Sir Edward Wentworth, who does not want her or know how to treat her. Despite being unloved by anyone but her nurse, Milly knows God’s presence, comfort and care, as the Bible is her greatest inspiration and source of games. Milly acts out many Bible stories in her play time but her favourite is the story of the prodigal son which Milly pronounces as “probable sons.” After befriending her uncle’s head keeper and his wife, Milly has some adventures as she has a tender heart for prodigal sons but through it all she wins the heart of her uncle. He is seriously injured in an accident but through this and Milly’s chatter he realises that he needs to make changes to his life as he is one of God’s “probable sons.”
Message: The need for “coming home” to a forgiving and loving God is very strong in this book. Obedience is another strong lesson.
