Joy to the World

Full text of gospel tract:

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!Let earth receive her King;Let every heart prepare Him room,And heaven and nature sing,And heaven and nature sing,And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
“Joy to the World” is one of the most popular Christmas carols of all time, but did you know it was not written as a Christmas song at all? Authored in 1719 by the famous English hymn writer Isaac Watts, this call to worship was intended for use year-round. Watts found his inspiration for “Joy to the World” in the message of Psalm 98, which encourages the whole earth to “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.”
One hundred and twenty years later, American musician Lowell Mason united the lyrics with the tune we know and love today. It’s no wonder that this uplifting hymn has become a regular part of our Christmas celebrations, and is one of the best-loved carols of all time. After all, Christmas is the season of joy!

Joy to the world, the Lord is come

Christmas is a time for us to rejoice as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. On the night Jesus was born, an angel announced the joyful news: “I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day … a Savior which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). We can rejoice that Jesus left His glorious throne in heaven and came to earth to become our Savior.
Why do we need a savior? The Bible tells us that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin means “missing the mark.” We have all missed the mark of perfect obedience to God. Whether we have missed the mark by a little or by a lot, our sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Unless the record of our sin is wiped clean, we will remain separated from Him for eternity (Revelation 20:15).

Let earth receive her King

What keeps us from experiencing deep, meaningful joy? The short answer is that we have removed God from His rightful place, and we sit on the throne of our own lives. We occupy ourselves with pleasure and possessions—things which soon will pass away. But God designed us for much more; He created us to live in relationship with Him for eternity. When we live in harmony with God, joy is the natural result.
How can we be restored to a relationship with God? The answer is Jesus. Even before He was born in Bethlehem, Jesus Christ was destined to die on the cross as our substitute. There, He took the punishment for our sins. He then rose from the grave, proving that He is truly the Son of God—and that the way to everlasting life has been opened. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Now that’s a wonderful reason for joy!

Let every heart prepare Him room

It’s time to make room in your heart for the King. Recognize that your way falls short of God’s way. Turn to Him and put your trust in the Savior, Jesus. “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
When your heart is made new through God’s saving grace, you not only receive forgiveness of sins: you also enter into a new life characterized by the peace and joy that come from walking with God. Even during life’s troubles, you will understand that “in [God’s] presence is fulness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). There is no joy without Jesus. Do you know Him?

Greasy the Robber by Charles Lukesh

A story of a family of Russian immigrants on their way to Siberia. The parents succumb to cholera, leaving the two children, Shura and 8 year old Pasha, to fend for themselves. Pasha escapes from the orphanage in which he is placed and is picked up by a band of robbers, with whom he lives and learns their ways. At 16 years of age, Greasy (as the robbers call Psaha) helps kill two Christian travellers. In the loot they find a New Testament which Greasy begins to read. Moved by the words he reads, Greasy reads the New Testament to the whole gang. The effect of the book was so powerful that they could not withdraw from its influence. The whole gang is convicted by the Word of God and seven of them, including Greasy, decide to turn themselves in to the authorities. After investigating the case, the district attorney decides to read the Bible for himself. Convicted of his own guilt before a holy God, he resigns from his position and many others are influenced to read the Word after hearing the tale of the robbers. Condemned to ten years of compulsory labor for their crimes, the men take the message with them wherever they go. Following an amnesty, Pasha is reunited with his siter, returns to the town of his childhood where many are converted through his story. This in turn leads to trouble with the Orthodox priests and thus Pasha is imprisoned again.

Not My Will by Ghislaine Spence

Look inside the book

On the voyage of life we’re often fearful, confused, and question the Lord’s dealings with us. Ghislaine Spence—a wife, mother and grandmother, has felt the same. Not My Will is Spence’s autobiographical account of her journey on the pathway of life. Beginning with her early childhood in Quebec, it traces her upbringing, relationships, life experiences, and times of grief and tragedy. It also chronicles the struggles that ultimately carried her and her husband to a prison ministry. An incredibly inspiring story, it shows how the Lord sends adversity in our lives—not only to reshape us, but also to teach us the enjoyment of His love, fellowship and peace that can only come through submission to His will. “…Who teacheth like him?” (Job 36:22).

Highly recommended reading.

Since I have known him, he has been faithful in all his promises. He is “ . . . the same yesterday and today and forever”(Hebrews 13:8). Through my joys and sorrows he has been a “friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24).
I first met him when I read his invitation in the Bible: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). I came to him, and he freed me from my burden of sin and guilt and gave me hope for living.
Daily he meets my needs. He promises, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. . . . Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27). When I am lonely and worried, I remember his words: “I will not leave you or forsake you” (Joshua 1:5).
I know that even at the hour of death he will remain with me, and one day he will take me to heaven to live with him.
How can you and I be sure of Christ’s love? The Bible says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). We can be assured of his love because he, the sinless Son of God, suffered for our sins on the Cross of Calvary.
We can know that Christ’s love is everlasting. Because he rose from the grave and returned to the Father in heaven, he can say, “I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore” (Revelation 1:17–18).
Yes, we can trust the Lord Jesus as our eternal friend. He invites us: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).
If you have never trusted Jesus as your Savior, invite him into your life today. Follow him and he will never fail you. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life” (John 5:24).

The Hired Man's Clock by Dale S Marshall

The Hired Man’s Clock is a fictional story demonstrating how the life of one simple, but godly man, even after his death was used by the Lord for His glory. The book is not a true story; it is from the author’s imagination. But it could be factual because most of the incidents were based on happenings he had experienced or had heard of.

The Hired Man’s Clock is a series of stories. Each chapter is complete in itself yet each has connections with the others. In every chapter, some details which seem insignificant become meaningful in others. May the Lord be honoured and may He be glorified through the story of The Hired Man’s Clock.

The story is set in Canada and covers over 80 years, showcasing events and times of different people's lives who all are connected to the clock.

This book is a hard-to-put-down read, very well written and bringing in important Biblical truths and practical Christian living without preaching at the reader. Very enjoyable for youth and adult alike.

Highly recommended reading.

One Day at a Time by William MacDonald

Publisher's Review: That's the way you have to live life- 'One Day At A Time'. But it is how you live each day that makes all the difference. There's no better way to start and finish the day than with an encouraging portion from God's Word. Each daily meditation is just a page long, but with each Scripture presented in a fresh way, William MacDonald stirs your heart to practical devotedness to the Lord. One way to ensure that our days on earth count for God is to fill our minds and hearts with the "engrafted Word" that we might grow by it. This is a book of invigorating meditations on the Scriptures from the crisp, Christ-exalting writings of William MacDonald. These devotionals are not intended to replace the reading of the Word, but to stimulate your thinking in Scripture, and, by God's grace, to help you apply the truth to your daily walk

Other: Excellent for new or young believers. Thought-provoking but yet applicable for day-to-day living. Conservative.

The Value of Trials by Mrs Judson A Elliott

This tender little booklet is a collection of jewels mined in the dark, but how it sparkles in the light! Someone wrote:
“Suffering is so universal, so staggering in its magnitude, the world so unjust, so unsatisfying, life so short and time so fleeting, it seems as if this earthly life was never intended by God to be a place where human happiness could find its fruition.”
But this is the place where, by trials, we can be matured and sweetened to prepare us for our heavenly home. Mrs. Elliott takes us on a journey along the path of divine comfort and shows us the way.
