Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners by John Bunyan
In Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, John Bunyan recounts his inner thoughts as he grappled with his faith. Bunyan takes us through the struggle of his own sin and how grace led him from a conflicted conscience to a powerful preacher of the gospel. Modern readers will find encouragement in Bunyan's remedies for his own troubled conscience, as well as hope that God has used so greatly a man who struggled so deeply.
John Bunyan was a pastor and preacher in England during the 17th century and is the author of the classic work The Pilgrim's Progress.

Samuel Rutherford and His Friends by Faith Cook
A man may be known by the company he keeps. Here,
Faith Cook introduces us to Samuel Rutherford's friends,
who are called on to give us a fresh look at the man who
has long been held in such high affection by Christian
people around the world.
The days in which Samuel Rutherford (c.1600-1661)
lived were ones in which 'a man must sin or suffer', and
most of Rutherford's friends chose the latter course. Two
were martyred, two exiled and all paid a high price for
allegiance to the truth.
The primary aim of these short biographies is to cast
light on Rutherford's genius as a faithful counsellor and
spiritual guide. We are introduced to the depth and
beauty of his Letters and brought to share in the wisdom
and consolation of his pastoral ministry.

Under the Scaffold by Faith Cook
Faith Cook writes an historical novel about Tom, whose life of hardship was typical of the days in which he lived, and has been drawn from many true-life events. He comes into contact with William Grimshaw, the fiery curate of Haworth with a burning desire to teach God’s truth and care for his flock. We see what happens to Tom, living ‘under the scaffold’.
Many, today, associate Haworth with the Bronte sisters, but relatively few know about Grimshaw (1708-63), who was the parish curate seventy years before they came to the village. During his time amazing things happened – more wonderful than anything that happened in the time of the Brontes.
Everything that is written about William Grimshaw, and also of John Wesley and George Whitefield, is completely factual.

The Incomparable Christ
Full text of gospel tract:
THE INCOMPARABLE CHRIST
More than 2000 years ago there was a man born contrary to the laws of nature.
He laid aside his purple robe for a peasant’s tunic. He was rich, yet for our sake he became poor. This man lived in poverty and was raised in obscurity. He received no formal education and never possessed wealth or widespread influence. He never traveled extensively. He seldom crossed the boundary of the country in which he lived.
But this man’s life has changed the course of history.
In infancy he startled a king. In childhood he amazed religious scholars. In manhood he ruled the course of nature—walked on stormy waves and hushed the raging sea to sleep.
He healed multitudes without medicine and made no charge for his services. He never practiced psychiatry. Yet he has healed more broken hearts than all the doctors far and near.
He never wrote a book. Yet his life has inspired more books than any other man. He never wrote a song. Yet he has furnished the theme for more songs than all songwriters combined.
He never founded a college, but all the schools put together cannot boast of having as many students. He never marshaled an army. He never drafted a soldier or fired a gun. Yet no leader ever had more rebels surrender to him without a shot fired.
Herod could not kill him. Satan could not seduce him. His enemies could not destroy him. The grave could not hold him. After three days he rose from the dead, alive forevermore!
He is the ever-perfect One. He is the Christ, the Son of the living God. This man stands forth upon the highest pinnacle of heavenly glory, proclaimed by God, acknowledged by angels, adored by his people, and feared by demons as the risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all…he hath poured out his soul unto death…and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:6, 12
Christ Jesus…being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but…took upon him the form of a servant…and, being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name, which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God, the Father. Danger: Where Will You Spend Eternity?
Full text of Danger Where Will You Spend Eternity?
This solemn question is staring you in the face. The days are passing quickly. Soon you will be ushered into eternity. Will you spend it in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ, or in hell with the devil and his angels? You have no other choice.
I plead with you to accept Christ before the day of grace closes. Accept the offer of God’s salvation just as you are. Tell Him that you are a sinner and that you want Him as your Saviour. “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21).
Every tick of the clock is bringing us nearer ETERNITY. Christ is knocking at your heart now. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).
God’s Word tells us to accept Christ NOW, not tomorrow. No, dear friend, tomorrow may be too late. “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1).
Death may claim you at any moment. Are you prepared to meet a holy God? “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
“Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).
God keeps books. Your name may be written on the church roll, but is it written in the Lamb’s book of life in heaven? I beg you to settle that most important question NOW.
Eternity! Where? Oh, friend, have a care! For soon God will no longer His judgment forbear; Eternity! Where? Oh! Eternity! Where? This night may decide your Eternity— Where?
Eternity! Where? Eternity! Where? Soon the Saviour will come for His own in the air: Then sleep not nor take in the world any share, Till answered this question—Eternity: Where?
Stop and think for a moment of what Christ did on Calvary’s cross for you and for me, hell-deserving sinners as we are. He bore the judgment and wrath of God. He shed His precious blood to cleanse us from all our sins and make us fit for His presence. Think what it cost the Lord of glory to come into this world, ruined by sin, to die that we might live with Him in heaven. It was all wonderful love.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
“What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).
“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
An evangelist once asked a prison warden for permission to see a criminal who was to be hanged the next morning. The warden told him he could only stay with the man three minutes. He quoted John 3:16 to him.
“God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
He also quoted other scriptures, and at the end of three minutes he left.
The next day the servant of the Lord heard that the prisoner died with the word “Jesus” on his lips. He confessed that he was a sinner and that he needed a Saviour. And God, in His wondrous grace, saved him at the last moment—just as he was entering eternity.
May this incident awaken you on your downward path and cause you to turn to the Lord Jesus. He is ready and willing to save you just as you are. He may not give YOU a chance to be saved at the last moment, like He did to the poor criminal. God’s time for you is NOW.
You may say, “Well, I do the best I can and go to church.” Yes, but good works and going to church will not save anyone. Salvation comes only through putting your trust in the Lord Jesus who died for sinners. All your good works are as filthy rags in God’s sight. (See Isaiah 64:6.)
Doing is a deadly thing, Doing ends in death.
I plead with you once more to accept Christ as your Saviour now, before it is too late. |
