Amy Carmichael: Let the Little Children Come by Lois Hoadley Dick
Click here to look inside the book
Summary: Converted to Christ at sixteen, Amy Carmichael worked in street missions for several years before serving for two years as a missionary to Japan.
At twenty-eight, she left for India, with high hopes of spreading the good news of Christ to the Indian people.
The year was 1895, and Amy did not know she was about to encounter a practice that would revolutionize her life and ministry. A custom of the time - later prohibited by law - permitted five- and six-year-old children to be "married to the gods" and thus launched into a life of prostitution.
Amy was horrified and heartbroken. She saw the beautiful Indian children as jewels of the King of kings, and she determined to rescue as many as possible. She and her co-workers would provide a safe, healthy, Christ-centered home for them instead. There she could shape and polish their lives for the Master's use.
God richly blessed Amy's efforts and sent more and more of His "jewels" into her care. This is the story of her significant and remarkable work.

The Amazing Butterfly
Full text of gospel tract:
Did you know . . . ?
. . . that butterflies taste with their feet?
. . . that butterflies don't have noses? They smell with their antennae!
. . . that butterfly wings are covered with tiny scales? Different colored scales make up the pretty patterns we see.
. . . that butterflies are cold-blooded? The dark colors on their wings help them absorb the heat from the sun.
. . . that some butterflies wear camouflage? The wings of many butterflies have colors and patterns that blend in with their natural surroundings to protect them from predators.
. . . that butterflies can see ultraviolet light? Some scales on butterfly wings reflect light that is invisible to humans. Butterflies use these ultraviolet patterns to recognize each other.
. . . that a butterfly's mouth is like a drinking straw? That's because butterflies only eat liquid foods, like nectars from flowers or fruit. The mouth, called a proboscis, stays rolled up until it's time to eat.
. . . that a butterfly wasn't always a butterfly? Every butterfly starts as a tiny egg that hatches into a caterpillar. The caterpillar grows and grows until it's time to build a hardened shell around its body, called a chrysalis. While the caterpillar sleeps inside the chrysalis, its body changes and grows new parts. When it comes out, it has become a butterfly, quite a different creature than a caterpillar!
AMAZING!
Did you know that you can become a new creature, too? You may not grow wings and learn to fly, but God can give you a new life. Do you sometimes do things that make you feel bad inside? Maybe you were mean to someone at school or told a lie to your parents. God calls those bad things sin. Everyone is born knowing how to sin, and everyone who sins must be punished. But God, who loves us, doesn't want us to sin. He wants us to be like Him–loving, kind, and good. Just as a caterpillar becomes a more beautiful butterfly, God can help you become more like Him. God sent his only Son, Jesus, to earth to be a human, just like us, except Jesus never sinned. Even so, He chose to die so that He could pay the death penalty for our sins. Three days after He died, God raised Him back to life again!
Do you want to have a clean, new life? Then just believe in what Jesus did for you. Tell God that you are sorry for your sins and thank Him for sending Jesus to save you. The Bible says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthians 5:17). God will change you on the inside to make you a new, glorious creature–just like a caterpillar changes into a butterfly. To do this, you can pray something like this:
Dear God, I am sorry for the bad things I do. Thank You for sending Jesus to pay the penalty for my sins. Please change me on the inside and help keep me from sin so that I can live a clean and beautiful life for You. Amen.
If you have just prayed to ask God to change you, write your name and address on the lines below and send it to us. We will send you a free booklet to help you grow in your new life with Christ.

Can I be Forgiven?
Full text of gospel tract:
In an out-of-the-way cemetery an unmarked tombstone bears the single word, Forgiven. A person can’t help wondering, who was forgiven and by whom? What happened that caused someone to leave that message forever engraved upon his tombstone?
The secret of that tombstone has long been buried. But one thing is certain, the need for forgiveness will always exist, since we all fail to live up to our word and others’ expectations of us at one time or another.
What is more serious is that we have failed to live up to what God expects of us! No one is able to perfectly keep God’s commandments. The Bible states it simply, “all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “Your iniquities [sins] have made a separation between you and your God” (Isaiah 59:2). Our disobedience separates us from our Creator. We need his forgiveness.
But how can we know that God will forgive us? How could a perfectly just and righteous God overlook our sin? Our situation would be impossible if God had not settled the issue himself. He sent his Son—Jesus Christ—to earth to become a man, live a perfectly sinless life, and ultimately give his life for you and me.
On the cross where Jesus died, he took the punishment for sin that we deserved. The Bible says God made Jesus to be sin for us, the One “who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Then Jesus rose from the tomb and came back to life three days later and was seen by hundreds of people (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).
Can I Be Sure?
Because of what Jesus has accomplished, it is possible to know that God will forgive you and one day receive you into heaven (John 14:1-3). You can have the assurance of God’s forgiveness by making the following choices:- Recognize that your sins have separated you from God. In honest repentance agree with God about your sinfulness and admit your need for forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, he [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
- Realize that God loves you, and believe that the sinless Jesus Christ died for your sins—taking the punishment you deserve: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
- In response to your trust, God promises you eternity with him! Receive Jesus Christ into your life by faith as your Savior from sin’s consequences. When you respond to God’s offer of forgiveness in faith, you can know that he has forgiven you. God’s Book, the Bible, promises that “to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
Dear God, I know that I have sinned against many people and against you. I need your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died for me and arose from the dead. I invite him into my life to be my Savior. Thank you for your gift of forgiveness and eternal life. Are you forgiven?

You're One of a Kind
Full text of gospel tract:
There’s no one in the whole world just like you! You don’t need to wear a costume or do anything different to be one-of-a-kind. You’re already special and unique, every day of the year.
No one else talks like you and thinks like you. From the top of your head down to your toes, no one else looks exactly like you. No one even has fingerprints exactly like yours. God is such a wise Creator that He designed a different set for each person. He never has to use the same ones twice. God knows all there is to know about you—what you look like, your personality, your sense of humor—everything! How cool is that!
But that means God also knows everything—including the bad things you do and say! In fact, the Bible says that since we all have done bad things—called “sins”—there are very serious consequences. Even worse, there’s no way we could ever repay God to make up for our disobedience and sins.
But the God who created us in the first place loves us—including one-of-a-kind you!—so much that He sent His perfect Son Jesus to earth to take our punishment and pay the penalty for our sins that we could never pay. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son [to die for us], that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). After Jesus died for us He came back to life and a few weeks later He returned to heaven.
God wants you to be a member of His family so He can help you make good choices and do and say the right things each day. And He wants you to live forever with Him in heaven someday. For this to happen and for your sins to be forgiven, you must first agree with God that you have sinned. Then you need to accept God’s offer to let Jesus be your substitute—the one who took the punishment for your sins. You can tell Him in a prayer like this:
“Dear God, I admit that I’ve sinned many times. I truly believe that Your Son Jesus died to take the punishment I deserved because of my sins. I accept Your offer to forgive me and to give me life that lasts forever. Thank You for loving me!”
